Champions for Youth Application

The Century Club of San Diego is committed to hosting a world-class PGA TOUR event to maximize support for the San Diego Community and local youth programs. Champions for Youth (CFY) is a mission-driven program of The Century Club with the purpose of contributing to the sustainability and growth of the participating charities by:

  • Providing a powerful tool to increase individual donor engagement
  • Spreading awareness about the selected Champions for Youth charities and their at-risk and underserved youth causes
  • Equipping charity participants with tools and resources that help with successful execution of the program
  • Helping to develop key learnings from the CFY experience transferable to other areas of the participating organizations

Minimum Requirements

  • Active 501(c)(3) public charity status
  • Primary business address in San Diego County
  • Must be a direct service provider to at-risk and underserved youth
  • Must have at least one senior staff member that serves a development function to oversee program participation
  • Proven ability to raise funds through individual donor support
  • At least 75% of funds raised must support San Diego programs/operations

Additional Considerations

  • Proven organizational stability and fiscal responsibility
  • Ability to motivate donors based on the bonus pool allocation structure
  • Prioritization of increased individual donor support
  • The necessary infrastructure to execute a successful development campaign
  • Desire to increase agency and cause awareness to drive long-term sustainability and growth
  • Ability and desire to prioritize Champions for Youth within the program window

Exclusions: Generally, The Century Club will not consider applications from the following entities or organizations:

  • Individuals
  • Foundations or organizations, which are themselves, grant-making entities
  • A nonprofit organization whose 501 (c) (3) status has been in operation for less than three years
  • Groups that practice discrimination based on ideology, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, physical or mental disabilities, race, color, religion, national origin, or ancestry
  • Political, labor or fraternal organizations
  • Political parties, candidates or partisan-political groups
  • Advocacy or lobbying activities for issue-related topics
  • Organizations whose mission and purpose is to conduct medical or scientific research
  • Endowments, fellowships or scholarships
  • Religious organizations or churches
  • Programs outside of San Diego County, unless the project / program serves primarily San Diego County residents
  • Organizations based in San Diego whose beneficiaries live outside of San Diego County

The Century Club reserves the right to accept or reject any application and to approve or disapprove any application. The Century Club also reserves the right to change the application criteria at any time.


June 6, 2017 Application Process Opens
*5:30PM PST Monday, June 19, 2017 Deadline for submission
As applications are received, through June 30, 2017 Applications reviewed, follow-up discussions conducted as needed
Week of July 10, 2017 Date by which charities will be notified of application status

*The Century Club of San Diego will accept applications on or before the due date, and appreciates those organizations that submit prior to the deadline.


  • Charities will be evaluated for alignment with the mission and goals of The Century Club and its Champions for Youth program, as well as an assessment of the charity’s ability to thrive in the Champions for Youth program based on answers to the application questions.
  • For those charities that initially appear to be a potential candidate for the program, The Century Club will reach out to conduct an interview and potentially a site visit to the charity’s primary business and/or service address, which will contribute to the evaluation process.
  • Charities who have previously participated in Champions for Youth or other Farmers Insurance Open charity programs will receive additional consideration based on their performance in those programs.

The number of charities for the 2017-2018 term is not yet confirmed, but will not exceed 12.

Please note, Champions for Youth availability each year is contingent upon program funding and a review of the prior year’s participating organizations. There is no guarantee that new organizations will be included in the program annually.
