The Farmers Insurance Open’s internship program is an extremely hands-on experience where students will have the opportunity to play a major role in the execution of San Diego’s PGA TOUR event held at Torrey Pines from January 21 – 27, 2019.

We are now accepting applications for our 2019 Tournament. The internship runs from the middle of October through the end of February.


  • Assist with writing press releases, website content, and sales/marketing material copy
  • Assist with the production of the Official Tournament Guide, including gathering photos, content and ads from sponsors
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of all social media strategies, leading up to and throughout the Tournament
  • Assist with customer service questions and inquiries via email, social media and phone prior to and during the Tournament
  • Assist with the pre- and event day planning and execution of the Tournament’s Media Days
  • Provide marketing support in the fulfillment of all partner agreements
  • Ensure Tournament website content is regularly updated



  • Manage communication and implementation of the PGA TOUR’s Honorary Observer program
  • Assist with communication, scheduling, and execution of Restaurant Partner program
  • Ensure all contracted signage is produced, adhering to brand standards
  • Coordinate partner hospitality requests including catering orders and venue deliveries
  • Interface with Century Club members, partners, vendors and PGA TOUR personnel



  • Pro-Am registration follow-up and handicap verification
  • Onsite event support at the Pro-Am Pairings Party and Pro-Ams
  • Assisting with the execution of the Pro-Am Restaurant Partner program
  • Administrative tasks related to the Pro-Ams and charity (i.e. preparing spreadsheets, collateral proofreading, shipping, etc.)
  • Assembling Pro-Am gift packages and monitoring inventory of gift items
  • Assisting with maintenance of Pro-Am and charitable programs website portals
  • Preparing tax letters for all donations received
  • Providing information and operational support for the Champions for Youth on-course activation



  • Work with Tournament staff to fulfill all contractual ticketing needs for the Tournament and ensure proper distribution of tickets to groups, individuals and FIO clientele
  • Assist with inventory, tracking and on-site fulfillment of tickets, parking passes, badges, and credentials during Tournament week
  • Update hospitality and sponsorship accounts in Salesforce
  • Serve as a source of information for spectators, managing ticket-related incoming calls and emails



  • Assist with the coordination and duties of all volunteer activities prior to and during the Tournament including volunteer registration, recruitment, uniform inventory and distribution, volunteer appreciation prize solicitation, volunteer headquarters management, volunteer collateral, operations, etc.
  • Assist Tournament Staff with special events and projects as needed



  • Assist with pre- and event day planning to ensure a top-quality event
  • Coordinate and develop run of show timeline
  • Develop communication plan
  • Assist with collateral creation
  • Manage guest/participant registration and check-in process
  • Manage volunteer event staff
  • Interface with Century Club members, sponsors, event guests, and PGA TOUR representatives


Time commitment

The internship runs from October 16, 2017 to February 23, 2018. From October to December, preferred availability is 2-3 days a week for a weekly total of 6-10 hours. Hours may increase as the Tournament approaches.

Please note these positions MUST work event days, Friday, January 12 to Sunday, January 28, 2018.


All internships are unpaid. College credit is available.
