Monday, September 27, 2010.

SAN DIEGO PADRES LOGOSAN DIEGO, CA – The San Diego Padres announced today they have extended their partnership with the Century Club of San Diego to once again be a regional sponsor of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Padres Vice Chairman and CEO Jeff Moorad made the joint announcement with Century Club President Jim Horton.

“The San Diego Padres are thrilled to partner for the second year in a row with the Century Club of San Diego, an organization that shares our strong commitment to the local community and the United States Armed Forces,” said Moorad. “Every year, this golf tournament draws national attention to San Diego and provides much-needed resources to numerous charities in our area. We are proud to be part of such a worthy event.”

As in 2010, the inaugural year of the partnership, the Padres’ relationship with the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open will center on the tournament’s military events. The club will again be a proud sponsor of the Military Appreciation Pavilion and will participate in the annual Military Luncheon. The Military Appreciation Pavilion, located near the 14th Green, is a popular free venue for military members attending the tournament, and is open only to active duty military and their families. Also continuing in 2011, spectators who wear their Padres gear to the tournament will have access to a special Padres grandstand, located next to the Military Appreciation Pavilion.

“Throughout the baseball season, the Padres are honored to recognize and support the more than 800,000 active duty, reserve and retired military personnel and their dependents and the many veterans in the San Diego region,” said Padres President and COO Tom Garfinkel. “This partnership with the Century Club of San Diego allows us to extend that support beyond baseball.”

As the “Team of the Military,” the Padres strive to expand their military recognition efforts. This year, the team continued the tradition of honoring the military during every Sunday home game, when players wear their camouflage uniforms and new Marine recruits are welcomed and recognized. In addition, military appreciation pricing has remained in effect for all games throughout the 2010 season, as it was in 2009. New this season, military personnel in uniform at Sunday home games are given a discount of 50% off all tickets priced $14 or more.

“The Century Club is thrilled to continue our partnership with the San Diego Padres,” stated Century Club President Jim Horton. “Both of our organizations take great pride in expressing our appreciation to our military personnel through a variety of programs we conduct each and every year, and we will look forward to continuing our relationship for many years to come.”

A portion of the proceeds from Padres merchandise sold at the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open will be donated to the San Diego Armed Services YMCA. The ASYMCA has been reaching out to local military personnel and their families since 1920. The organization provides free programs that specifically address the stresses and concerns of the military community.
