Kickoff Begins Today for SOS Program and Chip-In for Charity

$15 Tickets for Both Buick Invitational and Nationwide Tour Championship On Sale Now.

San Diego (August 23, 2007) – Representatives from the Century Club, Barona Band of Mission Indians, U.S. Bank and Sony hosted a breakfast today to celebrate the kick off of the Century Club’s annual Support Our Schools (SOS) and Chip-In for Charity fundraising programs.

Tickets for this year’s SOS and Chip-In for Charity campaigns will include two exciting events: the highly anticipated Nationwide Tour Championship at Barona Creek Golf Club from October 29-November 4 and the Buick Invitational set for January 21-27 at Torrey Pines.

“With the addition of the Nationwide Tour Championship to the SOS and Chip-In for Charity programs, golf fans are going to enjoy two dramatic events for just $15.00,” said Jeff Byroads, President of the Century Club. “As we’ve said over the years, this is a win-win program for our schools and we’re anticipating another record year.”

The concept is simple. Local high schools and organizations sell one-day tickets good for both events for an unbelievable total cost of $15.00. The high schools through their booster clubs, athletic departments and on-campus clubs, will keep 100% of their sales. As a special incentive, this year everyone who purchases SOS or Chip-In for Charity tickets and attends the Nationwide Tour Championship will be eligible to win $500 for themselves and then select a charity of their choice to also receive $500 courtesy of the Barona Creek Golf Club.

All proceeds from these programs will benefit the participating San Diego schools. The funds will be used to support team sports programs as well as extracurricular programs which are in need of additional financial support.

“Barona is proud to support the SOS and Chip-In For Charity programs as a way to bring much needed revenue to local high schools and charitable organizations,” said Councilmember Adam Reyes of the Barona Band of Mission Indians. “This opportunity to give back to the community is an important part of our partnership with the PGA TOUR, the Nationwide Tour and the Century Club of San Diego.  It is our goal to help raise thousands of additional dollars for these worthwhile programs benefiting local youth.”

During the past 14 years, the SOS program has raised $5.79 million. The 2007 campaign engaged 89 San Diego area schools and set a record with a total of $650,000. The leading schools in generating funds in 2007 were Cathedral Catholic High School, Tesoro High School, Poway High School, Rancho Bernardo High School and Mt. Carmel High School.

“U.S. Bank is committed to supporting San Diego and all of the communities throughout the country where we operate,” noted John Zygowicz, market president for U.S. Bank in San Diego.  “Schools are a vital part of any community and we are proud to continue our affiliation with this most unique fundraising program for the fifth consecutive year.  With schools seeing significant budget cuts around the state, we are proud to do our part in helping San Diego High Schools fund essential extracurricular activities for the kids."

The Chip-In for Charity program engaged more than 60 local charities in 2007 that raised $150,000 to boost the total dollars raised to more than $500,000 in four years.

The Chip-In For Charity program has proven to be a very beneficial program for many San Diego charities over the years and Sony supports their fine efforts,” said Ed Wallace, Vice President Community Affairs of Sony. “We certainly have enjoyed our association with the Buick Invitational and The Century Club of San Diego and now with the Nationwide Tour Championship event this will enhance the Chip-In For Charity on an even larger scale.”

The Nationwide Tour Championships features the Top 60 players on the Official Money List will be playing for 25 PGA TOUR playing cards, over the four-day event. These 60 players had accumulated dollars throughout the year at Nationwide Tour tournaments to reach the final dramatic event. The Buick Invitational features the top players on the PGA TOUR including the #1 player in the world and three-time defending Buick Invitational Champion Tiger Woods.
