MILITARY APPRECIATION ACTIVITIES - The Century Club of San Diego - Military Appreciation Activities

The Century Club of San Diego Military Appreciation Activities During the 2005 Buick Invitational Military Appreciation event, the Century Club presented checks totaling $76,000.

The Mission of the Century Club is to organize and manage the finest quality PGA TOUR Golf Tournament, to promote San Diego on a national basis, to be a major benefactor to local schools and charities throughout the San Diego area communities, and to stimulate and promote philanthropy by all parties who are associated with the tournament.

The net proceeds from the Buick Invitational golf tournament are given annually to San Diego area charities, most of which are youth sports or other youth based charities.

Beyond the financial support for San Diego charities, the Century Club has taken specific steps to recognize military personnel and their families based in the greater San Diego area.

To support military families, the Century Club offers complimentary entrance to the Buick Invitational Golf Tournament throughout tournament week for all active duty military personnel and members of their immediate family.

In addition, the Century Club sponsors an annual Military Appreciation Luncheon during tournament week. This Luncheon is specifically oriented to recognizing enlisted service members who have distinguished themselves by their service and have been selected by their organizations for special recognition.

Numerous individuals and businesses have joined with the Century Club in recognition and appreciation of those serving in the armed forces of the United States through charitable contributions to the Century Club Charities, a registered 501(c)(3) organization. Such contributions are not used to defray costs of the golf tournament. The monies so donated are forwarded by the Century Club to charities that support active duty military personnel and their families as part of the annual distribution of Century Club contributions to charity. Priority in the distribution of these funds has been given to charities providing aid to local area U.S. military service members who have been injured and families of those who are serving or have served in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
